The miracle that is sight is amazing, but when you utilize your sight to decode imagery produced from the work flow of a camera, you are combining two equally special processes. You are taking in the imagery with your eyes, that has already been taken in by a lens, refracted through an open shutter, and transposed to film, video, and still photography. To work with cinematography, is to master the will of the machine to put forth what your eyes have taken in, and present it for others to taken in with their eyes. You are literally the machine's master.
